NINA FERRO

Multi-award-winning singer, songwriter and storyteller Nina Ferro has spent more than four decades captivating audiences around the world with her unmistakable voice, extraordinary versatility and commanding stage presence. From jazz and soul to country, blues and rock, Nina's musical journey has taken her from Melbourne to London, Nashville and beyond, performing alongside some of the biggest names in the business, including Tony Bennett, Chick Corea, Renee Geyer, John Farnham, Hugh Jackman, José Feliciano and Chris Botti. During her eleven years living in London, she performed more than 80 shows at the legendary Ronnie Scott's Jazz Club, alongside appearances at the Royal Albert Hall, Wembley Arena and London's renowned 606 Club. Her television appearances include The Voice Australia, Dancing with the Stars and The Masked Singer.

Described by Tony Bennett as “a fabulous performer with a knockout voice”, Nina has built an international reputation not simply for the power and beauty of her voice, but for her ability to get right to the heart of a song. Now, with a lifetime of music and experience behind her, her focus is firmly on telling her own stories. Blending country, soul and rock with the musical freedom and spontaneity that have always been part of her artistry, Nina's original songs explore the complexities of being human, from love and loss to the sometimes messy, funny and unexpected business of living. Her music is honest, deeply personal and delivered with the warmth, humour and emotional connection that have become hallmarks of her live performances.

For this year's Melbourne International Women’s Jazz Festival, Nina brings her original music to the stage in an intimate voice-and-guitar setting, allowing the songs and the stories behind them to take centre stage. Drawing on her jazz roots and decades of experience performing with extraordinary musicians, this stripped-back duo performance offers something beautifully immediate: two musicians, a collection of original songs and the freedom to explore the music in the moment. Expect exceptional musicianship, a little laughter, some unexpected turns and, above all, a performance that reminds us why there's nothing quite like experiencing live music in the room where it happens. www.ninaferro.com

“With her boundary pushing left-of-center sound, Kate K-S is carving out a space in musical world for herself. Telling her personal stories with a sense of honesty and passion and allowing listeners to take a look at her experiences makes her one to watch.” - DuJour Media, 2017

“Her soulful voice permeated the space... I wondered to myself when was the last time I’d seen a performance this enthralling and cathartic.” - Pancakes and Whiskey Music Blog, Feb 5th 2018

“Really appreciate how personal and self-aware you are here. Takes a lot to put so much of yourself out there. Also really appreciate the beautiful, unpredictable production. But, most of all, I appreciate how damn great your voice is.” - Review by Dan Condon, Radio Presenter at Triple J Radio Australia 11 May 2017

“How good is Kate's voice? And how good is the production on this? Oh also, how good is that tenor sax? The answer to all three is VERY VERY GOOD.” - Review by Dave Ruby Howe, Radio Presenter at Triple J Radio Australia 9 May 2017
